As a young soldier I arrived in the Far East in the early 1960’s and was reluctant to try out the local food. One day while travelling with a major in a Land Rover he asked me if I had tried the local food. I told him I hadn’t and he suggested I try the local Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice). He told me that once you tried that, you were hooked on Malaysian and Chinese food. I tried it and I was – hooked.
